Franklin And The 'Owly' Dude

There have been two times in my life when I've just totally geeked out when I met someone, and this was one of them. (The other was when I met Alton Brown. Sadly, that was before I got my gnome.) This is Andy Runton, creator of the wonderful Owly comics when I met him at the 2006 Dragon*Con. I can't rightly explain why I acted like a complete doofus, maybe it was because I was so jazzed to get to meet someone who I honestly respected as an artist. Or maybe I forgot to take my pills that day. But Franklin really dug Andy Runton too, he thought he was a nice guy.

Menage-a-Gnome

Oh, how the ladies just love them some Franklin! Here he is being the creamy filling in a cute-girl Oreo... and before you get all hot and bothered, that's my cousin Casey (on the right) and her best friend, so if you were thinking anything unwholesome I'll get a bottle of extra-virgin olive oil and a sack of rusty carpet tacks and come and find you.

Franklin and The Lawsons

This is the Lawson family, who spent some quality time with Franklin in March 2006 while we waited for about a week to get a table at Outback Steakhouse. Seriously, I was so hungry that after a while I started to hallucinate that baby Piper was a hamburger, like on a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Since this picture was taken Missy and Isi have had another daughter, who Franklin hasn't met yet. That is high on his agenda, though. Franklin can't wait for the Lawson's yearly spring party, because they set stuff on fire and Missy makes this fruit salsa stuff that's so good that I'd murder a bus full of blind children and elderly nuns for just a bite of it.

Today I got an e-mail from Isi with a web site that had some cool screen shots from a PC game called Half-Life 2: Episode 2 where you can carry a lawn gnome around with you. How cool is that?

Frankin Ate Here

Those wacky people in Alexandria, Virginia sure have a thing for George Washington and where he ate and slept and did the same things everyone else does on a daily basis. Franklin has to admit that they served a tasty sandwich at Gadsby's Tavern... and to help them remember that he ate here too, he wrote 'So did Franklin' at the bottom of this sign. See it? Right in the corner? It's really super-duper teeny tiny.

The Ladies Of 'Firefly'

If you're a fan of Joss Whedon's series 'Firefly' or the movie 'Serenity' you should recognize Jewel Staite and Morena Baccarin with Franklin. Actually, if you were really a fan you'd be FREAKING THE HELL OUT right now because Franklin got to meet Kaylee and Inara. This was taken at Dragon*Con in 2005, which happened to take place right after Hurricane Katrina, and these luscious ladies were taking donations for the Red Cross. Franklin was happy to give them twenty bucks, and they thought he was totally sexy for that.

Introducing Franklin the Traveling Gnome

This is Franklin, my Traveling Gnome. I got him six years ago on eBay after I saw the movie 'Amelie'. Franklin is a Taurus, and in his spare time he likes to drink beer, work on his tan and cut down trees with his mighty axe. His turn-ons are boobies, sitting on the beach and people who give him candy. He hates metal detectors and people who have vanity license tags.
